Redding Rancheria Ordinances

ELECTION ORDINANCE


The following Election Ordinance was voted on by a duly called meeting of the Redding Rancheria Tribal Council, held on October 16, 1986. The Election Ordinance was passed by a vote of 6 for and 0 against.


SECTION 1 - VOTER QUALIFICATIONS

Residency of the Rancheria shall not be a requirement.


SECTION 2 - NOTIFICATIONS

A list of the Election Committee nominations will be mailed 60 days prior to the Election date.

A General Council meeting will be held 45 days prior to the Election date to allow for membership nominations.

Absentee Ballots will go out 40 days prior to the Election date.


SECTION 3 - ABSENTEE BALLOT REQUIREMENTS

Absentee Ballots must be postmarked 5 days prior to the Election date, and received by 12:00 midnite of the Election date.

Absentee Ballots are to be sent to an appointed member of the Election Committee.

Absentee Ballots will be handled as "secret ballots". When the Absentee Ballots are mailed to the membership, an enclosed self-addressed envelope (return address of appointed Election Committee member) will be provided. A signature will be required on the outside of the envelope. The signature will be verified by the appointed Election Committee member.


SECTION 4 - MEMBERSHIP NOMINATION REQUIREMENTS

There must be a quorum of the General Council, and there must be 5 nominations for a member to qualify as a candidate.

The Absentee Ballot nominations will require 5 votes of the membership for a member to qualify as a candidate. (i.e.: "write-ins")


SECTION 5 - ELECTION RESULT REQUIREMENTS

The 7 candidates with the most votes will win the election.

In case of a tie, the Election Committee will conduct a run-off by mail, as soon as possible.
