Service Policies

page. We can provide free research assistance related to Native American
law. We can also provide copies of documents in our collection,
or we can locate almost any other document from another library, the Internet
or subscription databases. We can deliver documents via this service or by
mail or fax. Fees may apply to document delivery as per our cost-sharing policy.
We also provide more in-depth customized research for a fee.
Requests should be related to Native American
law
We can provide research help relating to Native
American law. Other questions, including those regarding general history
and culture of Native Americans should be directed to other public and academic
libraries.
We cannot provide legal advice
The National Indian Law Library is unable to provide
legal advice, but we can provide information relating to your topic. The
law librarians providing this service are not attorneys and can not provide
legal advice. Please see our guide to obtaining legal
help if you need advice rather than information.
Turnaround time
Our objective time for answering your question is
always given to you when you submit a question. If you have provided us with
an email address, you will receive acknowledgment of your request by return
email, and will be advised by email if a problem is encountered with your
request. Sometimes requests need to be referred to specialist organisations
and you will be
advised of a delay if this is required.
Response methods
Email is our preferred contact method. For those
without access to email, be sure to
take a note of your query number so that you can use the Check on existing
question link accessible from the header of any of the pages of our service to
see the status of your question. Alternatively you can ask your question in
person or by phone. Call 303-447-8760 and ask for the library.
