Case Update

This case was brought as a challenge to the State of Alaska to force the State , its officers and Commissioner Jackson to give full faith and credit to a tribal adoption decree under 25 U.S.C. ยง 1911(d) of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA). The District Court held in favor of plaintiffs on February 22, 2008. Alaska took an appeal to the Ninth Circuit. Appellate briefs have been completed and oral argument will be scheduled next summer pursuant to the Court's calendar.
